When will Whitaker’s and Bossy Beulah’s open in Fort Mill? Here’s an update
Two anticipated downtown establishments continue work toward grand openings. One could open soon.
Stephanie Psaroudis, representing Whitaker’s on Tuesday afternoon in front of the Fort Mill historic review board, said her group is pushing to open within a month. It could be two. Whitaker’s got feedback from the review board on paint colors for the front trim and back wall, among other features.
The review board examines even small details for changes to historic properties in Fort Mill. Whitaker’s will go in the Spratt Building, which has been a bank, a town meeting space and more. In discussing the brick facade that will stay, board members noted the importance of that site.
“When you think Main Street Fort Mill,” said board member Elizabeth Leventis, “that one’s iconic.”
Even amid change around it and within it, the 215 Main Street address maintained its familiar look.
“That building looks the same,” said board chair Louis Roman.
Whitaker’s has sites in Conway and Savannah, Ga. The neighborhood bar and kitchen concept will add to a list of food, drink and retail options on Main.
Not far from that site, work continues on Bossy Beulah’s. The former Colemans garage site isn’t as close on its opening. A representative from a sign company met with the review board Tuesday to show options for the new chicken restaurant.
Board members say the 314 N. White St. address, just off Main and across from Elisha Park, is another significant one.
“This is going to be on our front door,” said board member David Booth.
Especially for large events like the South Carolina Strawberry Festival.
“Across from an iconic park that can hold a lot of people,” Roman said.
The board approved the sign for Bossy Beulah’s, as it did paint and trim work for Whitaker’s.
Bossy Beulah’s work went quiet for some time after the initial announcement. Crews came across an unexpected utility pipe that delayed work. The restaurant team came to the town in October 2021 to request exterior improvements and certification for the Bailey Bill that provides tax incentives for redevelopment of historic properties.
Interior work has to be done before the developer can come back for final Bailey Bill approval. That approval is available only through Oct. 12.
Town staff members said Tuesday they don’t know how long it might be before Bossy Beulah’s opens, apart from that key tax incentive deadline this fall. It’s on track for a later opening than Whitaker’s.
