Novant Health confirms job cuts, executive departures. What we know.
Novant Health eliminated 50 jobs this week, including several executives, a spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.
Novant, based in Winston-Salem, is the second biggest health care provider in the Charlotte region, behind longtime rival Atrium Health.
“In a continued effort to prioritize our patients and support the team members who care for them, we made the difficult decision to scale back some departments across the organization, including some members of our executive team,” a spokesperson said in an email.
The statement didn’t name the executives who lost their jobs or the departments where positions were eliminated.
Departing executives included Jesse Cureton, executive vice president and chief consumer officer; Paula Dean Kranz, innovation vice president; and Angela Yochem, chief transformation and digital officer, The Charlotte Business Journal reported. The Winston-Salem Journal also confirmed Cureton’s layoff.
Cureton is a well-known business and civic leader who helped establish the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance and Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics in Charlotte.
His departure was “anticipated and negotiated,” Cureton told The Business Journal. Cureton couldn’t be reached by The Charlotte Observer on Wednesday.
In fiscal year 2021, his salary increased 3.1% to $617,817, and he received bonus and incentive pay of $582,898, down 1.2%, The Winston Salem Journal reported in November 2022.
