American Airlines expands Charlotte winter flights to these warmer destinations
American Airlines will expand its winter flights from Charlotte to top Caribbean and Latin American destinations, airline officials said Wednesday.
The airline will increase service from Charlotte Douglas International Airport on 11 routes and expand seat capacity by 40% compared with last winter, officials said.
Flights will increase to such vacation destinations as Cancun, Montego Bay and Punta Cana, Ralph Lopez, American’s senior vice resident of Charlotte hub operations, said in a statement.

American will operate more than 300 weekly flights this winter from CLT to nearly 30 destinations in the Caribbean and Latin American region, airline officials said.
The expanded schedule starts Dec. 5 on 10 routes from Charlotte and will continue through winter. An 11th route, to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, will increase to two flights a day starting Nov. 5, according to the airline.
Daily service will expand Dec. 5 to Belize City, Belize (BZE); Curacao, Curacao (CUR); Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR); Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD); Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (POP); and St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (STX), according to American Airlines.

Flights will increase to four a day to Cancun, Mexico (CUN); Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ); Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ); and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), the airline said.
Charlotte Douglas is seventh-busiest worldwide for arrivals and departures, according to preliminary rankings for 2022 by the Airport Council International, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.
Last year, the airport had 505,589 arrivals and departures, council officials said.
