Jeffrey Honeycutt, a Charlotte financial and civic leader, dies at age 49
Jeffrey Honeycutt was an expert in financial services and a mentor to people in the field. But he will also be remembered for being a steward to his community.
Family and friends are now mourning his passing. He died Oct. 27 at the age of 49, according to an obituary published on Legacy.com by Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. He was a partner with Grant Thornton in Charlotte, one of the largest audit, tax and advisory firms in the U.S.
When Honeycutt was away from the office, he worked to make a difference through organizations like Autism Speaks of North Carolina, where he was a board member on the executive committee. One of his initiatives was the Blue Jeans and Bow Ties Gala, a fundraiser for the organization.
He was born in Rowan County and grew up in Salisbury. After graduating from high school in 1992, Honeycutt attended Appalachian State University where he earned a degree in business administration and met his wife Anna Bowers, his obituary said. The App State grads got married in December 2000 in Charlotte.
Honeycutt later earned his Certified Public Accountant license and became the Audit Services partner in Grant Thornton’s Carolinas offices in the Mid-South area. He worked with public and private companies in the financial industries.
He was a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity, Leadership Charlotte and the Charlotte Chamber Leadership program.
He had one son, Aidan. They loved to play tennis and golf together, according to his obituary. Jeff and Aidan also watched and attended sporting events.
