‘It’s just time.’ South End retailer that promotes Charlotte businesses and art is closing
A Charlotte retail store that promotes local businesses will close at the end of the month.
Charlotte Collective at 110 West Blvd. in South End is closing March 30, the store said late Wednesday on its social media sites.
The store is made up of small local businesses and creatives selling clothing, art, handmade jewelry and leather goods, and pet accessories.
“I’m so proud of how many small businesses have grown and had a platform to sell their products through this business,” Charlotte Collective owner Amy Crowe said on Instagram. “For me, it’s just time to close this chapter and go enjoy the next one.”
Just days earlier on Friday, March 14, Charlotte Collective had posted on its social media sites that it was looking for a pet vendor. “Think your biz is the perfect fit? Apply now to join Charlotte Collective!,” the posts said.
Two years ago, Charlotte Collective closed its flagship store at 1222 Central Ave. at Plaza Midwood citing rising rent. Lamar Central owner Tim Brumm, the property landlord, told The Charlotte Observer at that time that there was no proposed rent hike and the last time rent increased was three years ago.
The Plaza Midwood store opened in 2019, followed in 2019, with the opening of a second location in South End.
Charlotte Collective has worked with 200 small businesses over the past six years, Crowe said on social media. “I hope Charlotte continues to show up and support our amazing small businesses,” Crowe said.
Crowe did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday.
