Another movie production is coming to Charlotte. This one’s about a basketball player.

Charlotte will be the backdrop for yet another feature film.

“A Bridge Between” is set to begin filming next month in Charlotte with casting underway, according to entertainment industry publication Deadline.

“A Bridge Between” is a sports drama based on the life of Anthony Hodges, a young basketball player who struggles with recovery on and off the court after a car crash. On Christmas Eve, he meets former basketball coach Bobby Verdun at a YMCA, which launches Hodges’ journey back to the game and a life of meaning.

The Walk Like A Duck Entertainment film, in association with Enliven Content, is written by Bobby Verdun and Rob Goodrich. It will be directed by Jeff Celentano. Casting director is Lisa Beach, who previously worked on films “Wedding Crashers,” “Walk the Line,” “Scream” 1-3 and “We’re the Millers” and “Wolverine.”

There’s no word yet on who is handling background casting, where Charlotte-area people can seek to work as movie extras.

Celentano and Ostergard previously collaborated on the Dennis Quaid Christian-based movie The Hill, a sports drama based on the true story of Rickey Hill, a former baseball player with a degenerative spinal condition who overcomes obstacles to pursue his dream of playing professional baseball. The movie made $8 million when it was released in 2023.

The latest movie is not listed on NC Film Office and Charlotte Regional Film Commission websites.

In a statement to The Charlotte Observer, the local film commission said it does not disclose details about productions filming in the region. Acknowledging Deadline’s report, NC Film Office director Guy Gastor said he could not confirm or deny the information.

Other film and TV projects in the Charlotte area

It’s the latest in a long line of movie and TV shows to be filmed in the Charlotte region.

The true-crime movie “Roofman,” starring Channing Tatum of “Magic Mike” fame and directed by “Blue Valentine” Oscar nominee Derek Cianfrance, was filmed here last October through December. The movie is about “Rooftop Robber” Jeffrey Manchester, who broke into McDonald’s restaurants across the U.S. by entering through the roofs until he was caught in 2000 in Gaston County.

Its release date is Oct. 3, according to Charlotte Regional Film Commission’s website.

An untitled biopic about trailblazing female boxer Christy Martin, played by actress Sydney Sweeney, also filmed in Charlotte last year from late September through November. No release date is available.

Other movie and TV series that have filmed here over the years include “The Hunger Games,” “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” “Homeland” and “Masterminds,” to name a few.
