German company that partners with Walmart on logistics coming to Monroe
A German shipping container company that partners with Walmart and other big companies on logistics announced the opening of its newest U.S. facility in Monroe.
CHS Container Group is opening the facility at 2203 Stafford St Ext., the company said Thursday.
Founded in 1978, CHS Group is a family owned company with headquarters in Bremen, Germany. It operates across the full shipping container supply chain, providing rental, trading, modification and logistics services. It serves as a logistics partner for Walmart, Siemens and General Electric.
In Monroe, it will create 30 jobs in the next five years spanning operations, logistics, fabrication, welding and sales. The facility will start with four employees with hopes to add jobs as its shipping container rental and modification services grow.
The center will repurpose shipping containers retired from global trade, supplying them to local businesses as affordable storage or converting them into offices, workshops, temporary classrooms and other custom spaces.
The company is investing $150,000 into the operations center with plans for further mid-term expansion. The location is fully operational and will be open to the public by appointment.
The facility will house new and used containers in various sizes, along with modifications such as doors, windows, vents and electrical installations.
The company chose Monroe for its access to the Southeast and container supply chain, and its growth trajectory, CHS Group said in a statement to The Charlotte Observer. It opened its first U.S. warehouse in Memphis, Tennessee, last year.
CHS Group operates in more than 10 countries, with over 400 employees globally.
