Atrium Health is ready to open its newest hospital in the Lake Norman area, the Charlotte-based health care provider announced Wednesday.

Patients in northern Mecklenburg County and surrounding areas will have access to the nearly 200,000-square-foot facility on July 1. The healthcare system planned to celebrate the Atrium Health Lake Norman with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday afternoon. It’s at 1130 Tree of Life Lane, Cornelius.

The hospital has 36 patient care beds, including 12 dedicated to women’s and children’s services. Some of the other features include an emergency department, a labor unit, operating rooms and an on-site pharmacy.

Atrium Health broke ground in May 2023 for the hospital at the intersection of Westmoreland Road and U.S. Highway 21 (Statesville Road) in Cornelius.

Construction for the hospital involved 30% women-, minority-, or veteran-owned construction partners, most of whom were local, according to Atrium.

When asked about the cost of the new hospital, Atrium did not provide an answer. Instead, the system said that the Atrium’s Lake Norman facility is part of more than $1 billion in capital expenditure investments the health care company announced in 2018.
