Food Lion is recalling several products containing chocolate chip cookies due to a possible peanut contamination.

The Salisbury, North Carolina-based grocer said in a press release that one of its suppliers, Rise Baking, raised notice of potential contamination in select lots of chocolate that were used to make in-store baked Gourmet Chocolate Chunk Cookies.

One of Rise Baking’s suppliers informed the company of potential peanut allergen contamination, prompting Rise Baking to notify its customers and isolate potentially affected products, the company said in a Thursday, July 10 statement. An investigation was completed. The FDA reviewed the results and considered them “extremely low risk,” according to Rise Baking.

These products have been removed from Food Lion’s shelves, the grocer said. The last day customers may have purchased affected products was Friday, June 27.

What to do with recalled items

If you have any of the affected items, do not consume them. Instead, return it to a Food Lion store for a refund equal to double the purchase price.

Recent news for food shoppers

Wawa, a privately held company with locations in 11 states and Washington, D.C., will open its first Johnston County store at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 24. The store will be at 55 Masonboro Drive in Johnston County, near the busy Interstate 40 and N.C. 42 intersection. With the new location, the brand will have a dozen North Carolina locations, and it plans to open an additional five stores by the end of the year, including its first Travel Center in Hope Mills.

Costco is expanding store hours starting Monday, June 30. Once Costco’s changes to shopping hours are in effect, people who have an Executive Membership, the brand’s most expensive membership program, will be able to visit stores starting at 9 a.m.

Harris Teeter is closing one of its Raleigh grocery stores. The Matthews, NC-based company, which is owned by Kroger, confirmed to The News & Observer on Tuesday, June 24, that the store at 5563 Western Blvd. in the Plaza West shopping center will close. That store anchors the shopping center that also includes a Dollar Tree, Subway, Sonic Drive-In and Teddy’s Pizza.
