Charlotte-based supply chain management company Riverstone Logistics will move its headquarters to Rock Hill, with a $16.4 million investment set to create 159 jobs.
The Rock Hill site at 220 W. White St. will be the first one in South Carolina for Riverstone. That’s in The Thread, a 400,000-square-foot conversion of former mill and warehouse space downtown into office, retail and event space.
Rock Hill shares Riverstone’s vision for growth, innovation and opportunity, company CEO Charlie Workmon said in announcing the move Tuesday. “Rock Hill offers the perfect home for our next chapter,” he said.
Annual salaries for the new Riverstone jobs are expected to be $91,000. Based on average weekly wages from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers in the 11-county Charlotte metro region bring in nearly $76,000 per year across all industries combined. In York County, that figure is $61,620.
Riverstone should be operational by next July. The logistics company founded in 2017 focuses on freight brokerage related to consumer electronics, building materials and appliance installation.
Riverstone choosing The Thread is a welcomed addition, Mayor John Gettys said. He has emphasized in recent years attracting high-wage jobs to Rock Hill.
“Their choice to relocate reflects the strength of our workforce, providing further opportunities for talent to work where they live,” Gettys said.
Reshaping Rock Hill
The announcement is another win for The Thread, which was recognized this summer by the International Economic Development Council for the development’s role in reshaping Rock Hill.
The $106 million project is a partnership between The Keith Corp., Springs Creative, Springsteen Properties and Capitol Broadcasting Company.
It’s also part of University Center, where The Bleachery redevelopment won a gold award for public-private partnership projects.
University Center began in 2015 to transform the downtown Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Company site, locally known as The Bleachery. The $220 million project now includes the city sports and event center, apartments, restaurants, retail and offices.
