The 1.2 million–square-foot facility, at 799 Sara Lee Access Road, is expected to open in 2027, according to a news release from Gov. Josh Stein’s office Tuesday.

“As our e-commerce business continues to grow, this new fulfillment center will play a critical role in helping us serve customers faster,” Karisa Sprague, senior vice president of supply chain for Walmart, said in a the news release.

Walmart is North Carolina’s largest private employer, and the largest U.S. employer. Walmart officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

The project will create 300 jobs starting in 2027 with an average annual wage of $69,360 for salaried and hourly employees, which is above Gaston County’s average wage of $52,180.

For its investment, the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retail giant will receive nearly $3.7 million in state tax incentives over 12 years.

Walmart is expected to retain current warehouse employees under the terms of its job development investment grant. Walmart Fulfillment Services is technically the grant recipient, a Walmart division that handles the company’s e-commerce orders.

Kings Mountain beat out Spartanburg, SC., which was also in the running.

Gaston County and Kings Mountain officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.
