Charlotte area company shifts from racetracks to rockets, adds 40 jobs in expansion
A rocket parts manufacturer plans to add 40 jobs to the Charlotte region next year and invest more than $25 million in Huntersville for an expansion project, Mecklenburg County officials announced Monday.
JGA Space & Defense has secured 60,000 square feet of space in Huntersville, where its headquarters is located on Reese Boulevard. The company plans to start using the facility in northern Mecklenburg County early next year. It’s at 11731 Patterson Road, Suite 350, at North Chase at The Park.
The investment will improve production and expand capacity for customers.
Torque Capital Group, a private equity firm, acquired Joe Gibbs Manufacturing Solutions from Joe Gibbs Racing and rebranded the company as JGA Space & Defense, according to a news release Monday from JGA. The sale price was not disclosed.
With the new deal and name, the company will transition from performance racing work to a focused space and defense supplier, making products and components for the military, including hypersonic rocket nozzles.
The average salary for the new jobs will be $55,000, according to the county. Some of those roles are for machinists, quality control, and engineering positions.
More than 30 people are employed by the company, and the job expansion will more than double its workforce.
“We’re proud to break ground on our new state-of-the-art facility in Mecklenburg County because this is where our business began and where we want its promising future to continue to grow,” JGA co-investor and strategic advisor Terry Culmone stated.
