Huntersville company will lay off nearly 60 workers at its NC factory
A Huntersville packaging company is closing its North Carolina manufacturing plant in February, laying off 59 workers.
Precision Concepts filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification report with the state on Monday indicating that its plant in Mebane will permanently shut down by Feb. 1.
The manufacturer makes packaging such as sticks, jars, vials, spouts, bottles and tubes for small and mid-size brands in the personal care, household, and food and beverage sectors.
Mebane is between Greensboro and Durham in Alamance County. That’s about 120 miles northeast of Charlotte.
A majority of the laid-off workers that are losing their jobs are inspector packers, according to the report. The report doesn’t indicate why the plant is closing.
A Precision Concepts official did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
About Precision Concepts
Precision Concepts’ recent activities have indicated expansion, not downsizing.
In November, Precision Concepts acquired Comar Packaging Solutions, which creates similar packaging for the healthcare market.
In March, the group also acquired Meredith-Springfield Associates, another similar packaging company.
And in July, a Texas-based private equity firm, The Sterling Group, took over majority ownership of Precision Concepts.
Precision Concepts has operated for 60 years under various names.
It had 1,200 employees, according to its website, and operates nine facilities, with the majority in the United States.
