CLT Joules’ first full-time director leaving

Lori Collins, executive director of CLT Joules, which boosts energy entrepreneurs in Charlotte, is leaving this month to pursue graduate studies in Scotland.

Collins is past president of Charlotte’s Abundant Power Solutions and a former top executive at LendingTree. She became Joules’ first full-time executive director in 2013.

Joules offers energy startups an environment in which they can learn, grow and connect to bigger players in Charlotte’s energy hub.

The 11 startups in the program so far have created 66 jobs and attracted nearly $9 million in funding for sectors including solar, gas and oil, biofuels and nuclear energy, the program says.

Collins will pursue a master’s degree in carbon management from the University of Edinburgh.

Board member Jacqueline Patterson, chief executive of Sheercom LLC, will serve as interim director at Joules. Rudy Shankar of UNC Charlotte will lead the search for a permanent replacement.

Rob Caldwell of Duke Energy is Joules’ new board chairman.
