AT&T expands in Charlotte, hiring 200 people for cybersecurity jobs in new office
Telecommunications giant AT&T is signifcantly expanding its presence in Charlotte, announcing plans for a new office and the hiring of 200 full-time cybersecurity workers.
The AT&T Chief Security Office moved in this month into a temporary space at 8505 IBM Drive at Innovation Park. The company will relocate to its permanent 41,600-square-foot office in the same building in University City this summer, the company announced Wednesday.
AT&T and its Chief Security Office are headquartered in Dallas, Texas.
The company has about 70 local cybersecurity employees in Charlotte, most of whom were hired over the past several months. It is looking to hire another 130 people.
AT&T declined to provide a salary range for the jobs, but said it pays competitive with cybersecurity industry standards. The company did not disclose the investment amount for its Charlotte expansion.
AT&T’s Chief Information Security Officer Rich Baich wants to tap into the Charlotte area’s cyber expertise, which serves the region’s major financial services and energy sector companies — many of which are also AT&T customers, according to the company.
“I am a big believer in the talent you can find in the Charlotte area,” Baich said in a statement.
Inside AT&T’s expansion in Charlotte
Plans for the Charlotte office include a new “threat fusion center.” This secure, collaborative space will allow AT&T to review live cybersecurity issues directly with its enterprise and government clients.
Employees in Charlotte will focus on emerging cyber threats, designing defenses using artificial intelligence and serving as part of AT&T Dynamic Defense, a network-based security service designed to detect and stop threats before they impact a business.
AT&T has other offices in the Charlotte area, with the largest at 9139 Research Drive, just over a mile from the new office.
