Two Goodwill stores in Charlotte and Huntersville sell for over $8.7 million

A local investment firm has purchased two Goodwill retail centers in Charlotte and Huntersville for over $8.7 million. But don’t worry, the stores will remain open.

Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont sold two buildings in January to Piedmont/Metrolina Fund #12, LLC, according to Mecklenburg County records filed on Tuesday.

One store in Charlotte’s Sardis Woods neighborhood at 1909 Sardis Rd. North sold for almost $4.45 million. And the other store is in Huntersville at 14420 Statesville Rd., sold for $4.24 million.

While the buildings have sold, the retail operations will continue, according to LiZeatra Wilson, the communications manager for Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont.

Selling the stores strengthens Goodwill’s financial position, according to Wilson, which allows the nonprofit to invest the resources and “create additional revenue streams that will support our organization, team members, and community.”

Goodwill will rent the stores from the new owners, who have worked with Goodwill in the past.

The limited liability company ties back to Metrolina Capital, a real estate investment firm based in Mooresville.

The firm has a portfolio in several Goodwill chapters in the U.S., especially in the southeast, according to the firm’s website.

Metrolina Capital did not immediately respond to a comment request. But as far as Goodwill is concerned, the stores are here to stay.

About Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont

Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont opened in 1965 as an independent Goodwill affiliate agency. The nonprofit covers 18 counties throughout North and South Carolina.

And it operates over 36 retail stores across those counties. One of Goodwill’s recent openings was in the Steele Creek neighborhood at 4835 Shopton Road.

The revenue from the Goodwill retail stores goes towards career training courses and free family stability services for thousands of people each year in the Charlotte region.
