About Avelo Airlines and NC
Avelo began its Concord operations in May 2024.
In January, the airline announced a long-term commitment to the Charlotte region, establishing it as a key base for its fleet. This strategic shift included closing bases at Wilmington and Raleigh-Durham airports to consolidate resources.
According to Avelo, a recent recapitalization has left the company in a strong cash position relative to its size in the industry.
Avelo is the third airline to operate out of Concord-Padgett, joining Allegiant Air and Sun Country Airlines at the single-runway facility.
Avelo noted that the airport is a major draw for travelers due to its streamlined check-in services and the parking lot’s proximity to the terminal. Many passengers also prefer the facility as a less congested alternative to nearby Charlotte Douglas International Airport, one of the world’s busiest airports.
Opened in 1994, the airport was renamed in 2018 to honor former Mayor Scott Padgett. It has long been a favorite for NASCAR teams due to its convenient location near Charlotte Motor Speedway. Now with the new flight to Indianapolis, racing fans can also check out the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indy 500 race.
