2 big-name athletic brands coming to Charlotte Premium Outlets. Here’s when

Charlotte Premium Outlets in Steele Creek is adding two popular athletic and outdoor brand stores on the heels of recent openings and more planned this year.

Timberland and Champs Sports will bring more choices for shoppers looking for athletic and outdoor staples, Scott Anderson, director of marketing and business development at the outlets said in Wednesday’s announcement.

Champs Sports — performance footwear, apparel and accessories retailer with brands like Nike, Jordan and Adidas — will open this spring across from the Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store.

Timberland — known for its iconic yellow boot and trail-ready to streetwear shoes, apparel and accessories — is expected to open in late summer next to Old Navy.

The outlet website also updated the opening dates for these previously announced stores:

  • Portland Leather Goods, known for craftsmanship and minimalist design, will be the brand’s first store in the Carolinas and second in the Southeast. It’s opening Thursday next to Tommy Hilfiger.
  • OFFLINE by Aerie, with activewear for workouts, running errands and casual wear, is expected to open June 1. This will be the only dedicated OFFLINE store in Charlotte.
  • Ulta Beauty, the largest beauty retailer in the country, is expected to open July 1 across from Adidas Outlet. The store will feature a full hair, brow and makeup service salon, plus ear-piercing. Ulta Beauty features more than 30,000 products from 600 beauty brands.
  • Buckle, known for on-trend apparel for men, women and children, opened in February near Columbia and Old Navy.

The new stores will join over 100 others at the open-air shopping center in southwest Charlotte.

Simon-owned Charlotte Premium Outlets at 5428 New Fashion Way opened in 2015. Simon also owns SouthPark mall at 4400 Sharon Road with about 170 stores, and Concord Mills at 8111 Concord Mills Blvd. in Concord with 190 stores.

SouthPark mall has seen new store openings this year, too, with North Carolina debuts by trendy Spanish fashion retailer Zara and Australian brand QUAY Eyewear.

Recent store openings at Concord Mills include Miss A beauty supply shop and Kids Jungle Playground, which hosts birthday parties and is a place where kids can play, learn and exercise.
