In a Charlotte suburb, golf star Jon Rahm’s caddie tees up $14M record home sale
A golf lover’s paradise has just hit the market in the Charlotte suburbs. And at its $14 million pricepoint, it’ll be the biggest home sale Lincoln County has ever seen.
Fans of pro-golfer Jon Rahm may be familiar with his long-time caddie Adam Hayes. Well, Hayes is selling his 100-acre estate for $13.995 million in Iron Station, about 30 miles northwest of Charlotte.
It’s the county’s highest-priced residential property, pulverizing the previous record of $6.85 million, according to a news release from realtor Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.
Besides the novelty of the home being owned by Hayes, it boasts over-the-top amenities.
That includes a $75,000 Full Swing golf-and-sports simulator, The Wall Street Journal reported. (Yes, the sale even caught the attention of the Journal.)
Built in 2021, the home sits behind a gate with over 1,700 feet of driveway, a private person’s dream.
The home itself is more than 5,400 square feet with four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and two half baths. Other amenities include a 3,000-square-foot recreational facility with a commercial gym and a saltwater swimming pool.
The land is also connected to two creeks, trails and open pastures.
Higher listings for Lincoln County
The property and sale point is new territory for Lincoln County, mainly because its expensive homes usually lie along Lake Norman.
For example: on the Lincoln County side of the lake, the most expensive house is going for $7.5 million. It has been on the market for over 200 days and was originally listed for $15 million last year, according to Zillow.
The difference between that home and Hayes home is the size and privacy, Jackie Thiel, president of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty said in a news release.
“This listing reflects the continued evolution of the luxury market in the Lake Norman region,” Thiel said. “Buyers are looking beyond traditional locations for properties that offer privacy, scale and a broader lifestyle, and we’re seeing that demand translate into new pricing benchmarks.”
For context, the average sale price in Lincoln County is almost $543,000, up by 8.3% from last year, according to Canopy Realtor’s March housing report.
To afford Hayes’ home, almost $2.8 million is required as a down payment. And at a 30-year fixed loan at 6%, that would bring the monthly payments to $67,125.68, according to the listing.
