Camp North End curfew for unsupervised minors in effect following teen takeovers

Camp North End put a curfew in place starting at 6 p.m. Friday for unsupervised minors following what the development described as disruptive teen takeovers.

“Over the past several weekends, Camp North End has been the backdrop for several unauthorized teen takeovers that continue growing, disrupting property operations, and negatively impacting our tenant businesses,” read a Camp North End Instagram post shortly before 6 p.m. “This ongoing national trend poses a danger to both our community as well as those participating in the gatherings, and we will not tolerate this disruptive behavior.”

Camp North End management consulted with police, businesses and its private security provider to reach the decision, the announcement said.

Starting Friday evening, people visiting Camp North End can expect a “large presence” of police and private security “to help re-direct unchaperoned minors in accordance with the new policy,” the announcement said.

Camp North End is large spot with businesses, retail, common areas and bars and restaurants in what was once a production site for Model-T cars, and then missiles.

In April, officials in Huntersville addressed large teen gatherings in the Birkdale Village development.

Camp North End is a major development built in an abandoned 76-acre site once used for the production of Model T cars and, later, missiles for the U.S. Army.
