Charlotte country club bought by out-of-state investor already planning upgrades

An out-of-state owner and operator of golf and country clubs has bought its first property in Charlotte for nearly $7 million.

On Monday, June 15, Heritage Golf Group announced its purchase of The Palisades Country Club in southwest Charlotte.

The northern Virginia-based group bought the club from Timberlake Golf Club, LLC. Timberlake bought the parcel where the course sits for $1.5 million in 2002 and purchased a nearby 6-acre parcel where its sports complex sits for $3.5 million in December 2025. Blythe Development Co. constructed the golf course.

“It really fits our company model, which is private country clubs in residential communities,” Heritage COO Jim Oliver said in an interview. “It’s really kind of our bread and butter, so we’re very excited about acquiring it.”

“We are honored to become stewards of this club,” said Mark Gore, executive vice president of operations for Heritage, in a statement.

The country club at 13704 Grand Palisades Parkway has an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course along Lake Wylie, a resort-style aquatic complex, tennis courts, pickleball courts and a fitness center.

Heritage Golf Group is evaluating club improvement plans, incorporating member and team feedback through focus groups.

Oliver said the renovations will be a multimillion-dollar project, including golf course turf upgrades and cart path work planned to start in late July. Improvements on the clubhouse and other amenities will follow over the next 12 to 18 months.

He said there will be no immediate changes to club rates for members.

Heritage also owns Carolinas-based clubs in the Wilmington, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island areas. The group now owns 48 properties across 15 states under its current leadership and ownership, which took over in 2020.

“If there are other opportunities there, we absolutely would expand in the Charlotte market, for sure,” Oliver said.
