Duke Energy Renewables buys into Texas wind farm
Duke Energy Renewables has bought a 50 percent stake in a 211 megawatt wind farm in Texas through a joint venture with Sumitomo Corp. of Americas.
Candy maker Mars Inc. will buy the power and renewable energy credits under a 20-year contract. The company wants to be carbon neutral by 2040.
The Mesquite Creek Wind installation has the capacity to supply electricity for Mars’ total U.S. operations – enough to make 13 billion Snickers bars.
The acquisition brings Duke Energy Renewables’ Texas wind capacity to more than 1,200 megawatts.
