The discount theater in Matthews – known for $1.50 movies on Tuesdays – is reopening.

Carolina Cinemas announced Tuesday it is reopening the Movies 10 theater at 9508 Northeast Court, off Independence Boulevard. The theater closed last month after 20 years of operation.

Expect the same discount pricing of $3 per ticket on all other days when the theater reopens this Friday, according to the Austin, Texas-based Carolina Cinemas, which also runs a luxury theater at 9630 Monroe Road. That theater was renovated in 2014.

Carolina Cinemas plans to refurbish Movies 10, too, according to a statement.

“We acquired all of Cinemark’s seats, projectors, screens, speakers, and other equipment,” said Robert Crane, president of Carolina Cinemas. “They did a great job maintaining and upgrading their equipment over the years. We also purchased four new digital projectors to enhance our ability to get movies faster and offer a better selection of movies. We will steadily make incremental improvements during the next few months.”

The company said Movies 10 also will get new concession items in upcoming months, including pizza and sandwiches.
