Irish manufacturer Ingersoll-Rand, which has its North American headquarters in Davidson, received two awards recently for its environmental efforts from the North Carolina Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.

The company received the Thomas Edison Award for its “Climate Commitment,” a five-year vow to reduce greenhouse gas refrigerant footprint by 50 percent, invest $500 million in research and development of GHG emissions reduction and reduce its own greenhouse gas footprint by 35 percent.

Ingersoll-Rand also received the Talking Walls Award for small commercial buildings for an environmentally friendly 76,320-square-foot facility under construction at its Davidson campus that once done, will yield a 29 percent energy savings and a more than 42 percent water savings, the company said.

“Bringing home awards in two separate categories highlights the passion and purpose our employees have to help solve pressing issues and make a lasting, positive impact on the environment in their local communities,” W. Scott Tew, executive director of Ingersoll-Rand’s Center for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability, said in a statement Tuesday.

The company received the awards Friday at the council’s annual Green Gala in Charlotte.

Ingersoll-Rand, maker of Club Car golf carts, employs about 2,000 people in Mecklenburg County, the majority of whom are at its Davidson corporate offices.
