Delta Air Lines will begin offering nonstop flights to Paris from Raleigh-Durham International Airport next May, airport and airline officials announced Thursday.

Paris becomes the second European city with daily nonstop service from RDU. American Airlines has offered daily nonstop flights to London since 1994.

“We are thrilled to welcome Delta Air Lines’ nonstop service from RDU to Paris,” Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority President and CEO Michael Landguth said in a statement. “The launch of this new service speaks to the strength of our market and the demand for service not only to Europe but to a gateway destination that offers connections to cities throughout Africa, Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East.”

The Paris flights begin May 12. The flight will depart Paris at 10:45 a.m. and arrive at RDU at 2 p.m. A 6:15 p.m. departure from RDU will arrive in Paris at 8:35 a.m. the following day.

RDU officials say that more than 1.5 million people travel between RDU and international destinations each year. About 10 percent of those travelers take the daily nonstop flights to London.
