Forum to focus on economic empowerment

Friendship Missionary Baptist Church will host a free community discussion of African-American Economic Empowerment at noon on Saturday. Speakers will include Roger Ferguson, chief executive of TIAA-CREF, former U.S. Rep. Mel Watt, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and Mignon Clyburn, a commissioner at the Federal Communications Commission.

Ferguson was formerly vice chairman of the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System. Watt leads the agency that supervises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Clyburn formerly served as acting chairwoman of the FCC.

The church is at 3400 Beatties Ford Road.
