Charlotte-area gas prices rise 2 cents from last week
Prices at the pump in Charlotte and nationwide rose slightly over the last week as oil refineries underwent maintenance. Still, the cost of gas nationwide is the lowest it’s been at this time of year since 2004.
The average cost of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in the Charlotte region, which includes Rock Hill, rose about 2 cents over the last week, according to auto group AAA. In North Carolina, gas rose 4 cents and in South Carolina, it rose 5 cents.
“As the refinery maintenance season continues to ramp-up, gas price declines could slow and temporarily change direction,” AAA said in a report Monday, adding that the high supply of oil around the world should keep gas prices relatively low.
Drivers in South Carolina continue to pay the least for gas in the country.
Here are the average gas prices locally and nationwide as of early Tuesday. AAA surveys 120,000 gas stations nationwide to determine average prices.
Charlotte | North Carolina | South Carolina | National | |
Current | $2.11 | $2.14 | $1.96 | $2.29 |
Week ago | $2.09 | $2.10 | $1.91 | $2.28 |
Year ago | $3.26 | $3.28 | $3.09 | $3.34 |
