Charlotte gas prices fall 4 cents over the week
Gas prices in the Charlotte area and beyond continued their decline over the last week, and drivers are on track to pay the lowest prices at the pump over the Thanksgiving holiday in seven years.
The average cost of a gallon of unleaded gas in the Charlotte metro area fell 4 cents since last week, while statewide it fell 5 cents, according to auto group AAA. The national average price has dropped for 18 days straight and is expected to fall below $2 a gallon by Christmas.
Thanks to a high supply of oil, more than half of U.S. stations are selling gas for less than $2 a gallon, AAA said in a report this week.
Fuel prices fell the most in Midwestern states over the week, as refineries in the area came back online following planned and unplanned maintenance. Indiana, for example, saw its average prices fall nearly 19 cents over the week.
Below are gas prices locally and nationally as of early Tuesday. AAA determines average prices by surveying 120,000 stations nationwide.
