Albemarle-based Uwharrie Bank hired David Veach as a senior vice president and relationship manager in its commercial lending group to develop new relationships in the Charlotte market.

Realtor/broker Beth Preston joined the sales team of Weichert, Realtors – LKN Partners, Mooresville, to work in the Lake Norman and surrounding areas.

The global legal services organization Mayer Brown promoted two Charlotte lawyers in the firm’s banking and finance division to partner: Kiel A. Bowen, whose practice focuses on fund finance; and Timothy R. Hicks, who concentrates on secured lending.

Alex Smereczniak, Sam Salin and Dan D’Aquisto founded 2U Laundry, a customized, membership-based laundry and dry cleaning business which provides door-to-door delivery service. Their concept is modeled after a similar business Smereczniak launched while at Wake Forest University.

Donna Gloddy joined The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge as assistant banquet manager.

Sodoma Law hired attorney John C. Woodman to focus on business litigation, corporate law and credit/debtor rights.

Dennis Steele and Bob Zielinski joined the sales team of Weichert, Realtors – Rebhan & Associates in Charlotte.

Four attorneys focusing on business litigation in the Charlotte office of Smith Moore Leatherwood were listed in the 2015 Super Lawyers Business Edition, a rating service of Thomson Reuters: Jonathan Heyl, Robert Marcus, Larry Sitton and Fred Wood, Jr.

Concord-based Practical Software Solutions was named a Sage North America Million Dollar Club achiever for the ninth consecutive year. The company specializes in the sales, installation and support of Sage construction, real estate and other business management products.

Horack Talley received the Outstanding Firm Pro Bono Service Award from the Council for Children's Rights. Individual honorees were Horack Talley family law attorneys Gena Morris, Mitchell Kelling, Will Medlin, Libby James, and Bree Laughrun. As volunteers for the Council’s Custody Advocacy Program, they advocate for children in contested cases.

The law firm of Bradley Arant was included in the 2016 U.S. News – Best Lawyers Tier 1 national ranking in the practice areas of construction law and mass tort litigation/class actions – defendants. The firm also received Charlotte Metropolitan Tier 1 ranking for bankruptcy and creditor debtor rights/insolvency and reorganization law.
