Troubles with its national network toppled Time Warner TV and Internet service Sunday afternoon from the Carolinas to California.
Customers began losing service about 5:30 in the Triangle, and many reported that calls to toll-free service numbers went unanswered or got only busy signals.
Some customers said service returned about 6 p.m., but for others it was taking longer.
Just before 6 p.m., the company sent a message on its Twitter page for North and South Carolina saying technicians were “currently working on resolving an issue causing service problems. No ETR (estimated time of restoration) at this time.”
At 8:08 p.m., a message said, “Customers in the Carolina’s (sic) sorry for the delay, we are still working on the internet issues. The TV should be back up and working.”
A story posted on the TWC News website told those who could receive it: “Time Warner Cable stated it was having issues since around 4:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
“As of 6:15 p.m. there have been more than 16,000 reports of problems with service from Charlotte to Los Angeles.
“The number of reported outages decreased at about 6:25 p.m.”
