Natural gas pipeline approved
Federal regulators have approved a 516-mile natural gas pipeline in Alabama, Georgia and Florida in which Duke Energy owns a share.
Duke has a 7.5 percent interest in the Sabal Trail pipeline, a joint venture with Spectra Energy and NextEra Energy.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval lets the companies start construction in a few months. The project is expected to go into service in May 2017.
The pipeline would have the capacity to deliver about 1.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day to the Southeast, including power plants owned by Duke and Florida Power & Light Co.
