Jennifer Maier, President and CEO of Women’s Distribution Services Inc., of Lake Wylie, S.C., was named as a 2016 star by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. She has expanded her business to include 22 local service hubs for customers in food processing, medical and technology industries throughout the U.S. and Canada.

As part of Earth Day, Sustain Charlotte, a nonprofit addressing the community’s sustainability challenges, honored 71 businesses, agencies and fellow nonprofits for their environmental efforts. First place winners and their categories were Damon Barron of TreeCycle America, individual leadership; energy, Central Piedmont Community College; food, Atherton Market; land use, Carolina Thread Trail; social equality, Informative Technologies; transportation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation; sustainable economy, Recover; waste reduction, Promising Pages; water, Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation.

The Arthritis Foundation named Brian Curtin, M.D., of OrthoCarolina its medical honoree of the 2016 Charlotte Walk to Cure Arthritis event.
