Landmark JFG Coffee sign for sale on Craigslist
The historic JFG coffee sign that sits atop a bar at the AvidXchange Music Factory is up for sale on Craigslist for $10,000.
The 10,000 pound sign was once a prominent landmark near Bank of America Stadium, displayed outside the John Belk Freeway since 1964.
But in 2009, JFG Coffee and Tea, which is now owned by the New Orleans-based Reily Foods Company, was unable to renew its contract with the billboard company and the sign came down.
After the sign was brought down it was refurbished and placed at the North Carolina Music Factory in 2011.
Two days ago, an advertisement for the sign was posted on Craigslist. Here is the description:
“Own a piece of Charlotte history! The JFG sign has been a landmark in the Queen City for over 45 years. For the last 5 years it has sat on top of VBGB at the Music Factory but it’s coming down soon and it can be yours! We will have it taken down from the roof and ready for pick up. If you’re interested please email us for details!”
Last week, the Music Factory added AvidXchange to its name, after the software company acquired the naming rights to build its headquarters at the location.
Ark Group, the Music Factory’s developer, did not return a call from the Observer.
