Genco to close Charlotte facility; 53 workers to lose their jobs

Genco is closing its Comcast test and repair facility in southwest Charlotte, a move that will result in the layoff of 53 workers there.

Genco, a FedEx company, is a third-party logistics provider. A spokeswoman said that the one customer that Genco supports in its facility at 10325 Ridge Creek Dr. “has determined it no longer needs the services that Genco provides at this location.”

The change is expected to take place Sept. 15, and it affects 53 jobs, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice filed to the state.

Under federal law, companies must file WARN notices when they make mass layoffs, close plants and change ownership.

Employees in the affected positions will be provided a severance package and career counseling support, the spokeswoman said.
