After the company’s flags had been raised over its new building in Ballantyne, Synchrony Financial’s chief operating officer spoke Tuesday of his excitement for the office’s location, capacity and amenities. The complex includes a parking lot that can hold 1,000 cars and an on-site workout facility.

Synchrony, which issues credit cards on behalf of Belk, Lowe’s and other retailers, is relocating its almost 400 current employees from its West Tyvola Road location to Ballantyne Corporate Park. Chief Operating Officer Kurt Grossheim spoke with the Observer after he cut the ceremonial ribbon in front of the new building Tuesday morning.

▪ Grossheim said he was excited about the room the new building gives the company to grow. The 154,000 square-foot building has the capacity to support 1,000 employees.

“(We have) plans to continue growing our workforce here in 2015 and beyond,” Grossheim said. “We plan to add about 200 jobs over the next six months.”

▪ Grossheim said the company is pleased with the amenities surrounding the Ballantyne location and never looked at moving south of the state line.

“We’re committed to Charlotte,” Grossheim said. “I’m confident that our employees will enjoy coming to work here.”

▪ Employee Erick Liger said he was excited that the new workout facilities mean he can cancel his gym membership and won’t have to always run in his neighborhood. He also praised the offices.

“The amenities that we have, they’re awesome,” Liger said. “The environment and the ambiance we have now is going to be great.”
