Charlotte-based LendingTree has named marketing veteran Sam Yount as its new chief marketing officer. He will be based in the company’s office in Burlingame, Calif.

Yount will lead LendingTree’s marketing operations and continue to build the company’s brand as it expands into new financial service categories, LendingTree said in a statement Thursday.

“Sam has successfully led marketing initiatives at disruptive high-growth financial services firms in Silicon Valley and has pioneered some of the most revolutionary ad technology in the space,” said Doug Lebda, the company’s founder and Chief Executive Officer.

Before joining LendingTree, Yount served as vice president of marketing at FutureAdvisor, where he assembled a marketing team and drove “substantial revenue growth” before the firm was acquired by BlackRock, LendingTree said. He also was VP of marketing at a firm called Personal Capital and led online marketing for Scottrade.

LendingTree, the online loan marketplace that pairs customers with mortgage and other types of lenders, employs about 200 people at its headquarters in Ballantyne.
