Mansion on Providence Road sets Charlotte sales record at $8.4 million, Realtor says
A Mediterranean Florida-style estate at 8371 Providence Road has sold for a Charlotte record of $8.4 million, according to the real estate agency that represented the buyer.
The sale of the home in the gated Greenwood community surpassed the previous record sale by $800,000, said Realtors Lena Horrigan and Nilou Henderson of Charlotte-based Henderson Ventures Inc. in a news release Tuesday. That was for an 18th-century-style chateau at 7330 Baltusrol Lane in Quail Hollow.
The buyers in the $8.4 million sale “have requested to remain private,” Horrigan said in an email. The closing is scheduled for Wednesday morning, she said.
Charlotte Checkers owner Michael Kahn was the previous buyer, Horrigan said.
The 12,718-square-foot home includes five bedrooms, an oversized six-car garage, a saltwater in-wall aquarium, a recording studio, gym, putting green and an owner’s suite sauna, according to its listing.
Stephen and Victoria Kaleel designed the home, which Stephen Kaleel built in 1991. The couple lived there for at least a decade, Victoria Kaleel told The Charlotte Observer
Stephen Kaleel, now in his 80s, was a prominent builder in Myers Park and other exclusive Charlotte neighborhoods.
Victoria Kaleel also designed the interiors of the Providence Road mansion, she said, and worked with Florida architect Don Evans on the house.
Evans, who died in 2022, was known for collaborating with many celebrities, according to Henderson Ventures Inc.
The 5.41-acre estate was listed by Ivester Jackson at Distinctive Properties.
