Italian street food restaurant chain from Ohio opens second store in Charlotte

An Italian restaurant chain new to North Carolina is opening its second Charlotte location Tuesday.
Piada Italian Street Food will open at 10:45 a.m. Sept. 6 at The Pointe at University Place at 8932 J M Keynes Drive, according to a company news release. It’s the company’s 46th store and second Charlotte location.
The University space is 2,240 square feet, according to local commercial real estate company CASTO’s website.
Piada opened a store July 7 in the former IHOP space at Cotswold Village at 336B S. Sharon Amity Road.
The Cotswold restaurant site is about 2,800 square feet in the 262,496-square-foot retail shopping center owned by SITE Centers Corp. of Beachwood, Ohio.

Piada, based in Columbus, Ohio, is a fast-casual restaurant known for its Italian-style street wraps, pasta dishes and salads, according to the company website. Protein choices include calamari, sausage, salmon and meatballs with sauces like pomodoro, alfredo, diavolo and pesto.
Piadas are made up of a thin-crust dough, which is baked on a stone grill and filled with Italian-inspired ingredients, then hand-rolled, according to the company.
Piada was inspired by the roadside family-run street food carts and markets found in Rimini, Italy, according to the company.
The first Piada restaurant opened in 12 years ago, according to the company website.
There are over 40 store locations in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Texas.
