Duck Donuts expands again in the region, this time in south Charlotte

A popular made-to-order doughnut shop chain is opening its fourth Charlotte-area shop Saturday.

Duck Donuts will open its 1,064-square-foot store Saturday at Rea Farms Shopping Center, 9825 Sandy Rock Place, in south Charlotte.

Franchisee Andre Walters, who owns the Dilworth and Huntersville stores, co-owns the new store with professional basketball player Will Clyburn, Duck Donuts said in a news release Tuesday. Clyburn has played basketball for a number of overseas teams.

A Fort Mill, S.C., shop opened in January at 801 Brayden Parkway under another franchisee Clayton Galindo, The Herald newspaper in Rock Hill reported.

What to expect at Duck Donuts

Customers at Duck Donuts can pick from coatings, toppings and drizzles. Expect traditional doughnut favorites such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and creations like maple icing with chopped bacon.

The menu also includes doughnut breakfast sandwiches, sundaes and milkshakes.

And the new space has a viewing area to watch the doughnuts being made. There is limited indoor seating.

The store has about 15 full- and part-time employees.

The national doughnut chain is based in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg.

In 2007, Duck Donuts’ first stores opened in Duck and Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks. The company began franchising in 2013.

There now are more than 100 stores in 23 states, Puerto Rico and two international locations: in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, and Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
