Dick’s Sporting Goods tries something new in NC, debuts outlet store in Concord

A discount store from Dick’s Sporting Goods’ is making its North Carolina debut in the Charlotte region.

Going, Going, Gone! opened Wednesday at Afton Ridge shopping center, 6080 Bayfield Parkway, in Concord. A weekend of opening events is planned Friday through Sunday. The store was converted from a Dick’s Sporting Goods Warehouse Sale Store, the company said in a news release.

Last year, Dick’s closed its Northlake Mall store and relocated to Simon mall Concord Mills, about 5 miles away from the new off-price retail store.

What to expect

Going, Going, Gone! features thousands of apparel and shoe brands, including Nike, Adidas and Under Armour, at up to 70% off, according to Dick’s.

The apparel departments are organized by size and color.

Dick’s opened its first Going, Going, Gone! store last year, and now there are more than a dozen across the country, according to the company.

Dick’s has 10 stores in the Charlotte region, including the new Going, Going, Gone! location, according to the website.

Dick’s first store, a bait and tackle shop, opened in 1948 in Binghamton, N.Y. Now headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dick’s is the largest retailer of sporting goods in the U.S. with more than 850 stores across the country.

Along with Dick’s Sporting Goods and Going, Going, Gone!, the company’s retail concepts are Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream, Public Lands and Warehouse Sale stores, according to the company’s website.
