Lake Norman family restaurant sells for $1 million months after closing
A longtime Lake Norman family restaurant that closed over the summer has sold for $1.175 million to a Huntersville man, public records show.
Cook House Southern Dinin’ has sat vacant since owners Gus and Phyllis Karavas retired in July. The couple opened the restaurant in 2003.
Limited liability companies are named as the seller and buyer of the restaurant, located in Shops on the Green off Interstate 77 Cornelius exit 28, Mecklenburg County tax records show.
Istiea Island LLC sold the establishment to Torrence Chapel LLC on Oct. 14, according to the records.
Gus Karavas is listed as manager of Istiea Island LLC, according to documents on file at the N.C. Secretary of State’s office in Raleigh.
Andrew Sheridan, a 44-year-old Huntersville resident, is the only member of Torrence Chapel LLC listed in its state filings.
It’s unclear what Sheridan intends to do with the location. He didn’t return a phone message from The Charlotte Observer this week.
The only phone number listed in public records for Gus and Phyllis Karavas is no longer in service.
A handwritten “closed” sign remained on a front door of the Cook House Wednesday with no apparent activity going on in the building.
“We’ve had a great run in Cornelius, and altogether 54 years in the restaurant business,” Phyllis Karavas told Cornelius Today before the restaurant closed in late July.
Shops on the Green includes such popular food stores and dining spots as Sangam Indian Cuisine; Ferrucci’s Old Tyme Italian Market; Prosciutto’s Pizzeria, Pub and Restaurant; El Toro Mexican Grille & Bar; and French Market Cafe & Gourmet Shop.
