AMC Northlake 14 movie theater at Northlake Mall in Charlotte has reopened just in time for the big 4th of July holiday weekend.

”The theater resumed operations today,” AMC spokesman Ryan Noonan said Friday.

The movie theater had been closed for over a week due to air conditioning issues.

“This issue requires HVAC parts that we do not have on hand and are not available locally,” Noonan told The Charlotte Observer on June 21. “We are awaiting a timeline on when to expect the parts and when the HVAC will be fixed.”

But on Friday, tickets were for sale again on the theater’s website for movies including “The Little Mermaid,” “Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny,” and “Elemental.”

Northlake Mall is one of four Charlotte-area AMC theaters. Other locations are: AMC Park Terrace 6, AMC Carolina Pavilion 22 and AMC Concord Mills 24.

It’s not the first time AMC had to close a local theater because of HVAC issues.

Last July, AMC Carolina Pavilion closed temporarily for a couple weeks during the height of the summer blockbuster season because air conditioning failure made it “unsafe.” The summer movie season already is well underway, featuring the likes of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “The Flash” and “The Little Mermaid.”

Kansas-based AMC Entertainment Holdings is the largest movie theater chain in the world. AMC’s parent company is Wanda Group in China. During the pandemic, AMC Classic Rock Hill 7 permanently closed.

Northlake Mall problems

The Northlake movie theater is one of the anchor tenants at Northlake Mall in north Charlotte near Interstate 77.

In May 2021, the two-story, 1.1-million-square-foot mall went into receivership after failing to pay unspecified debts. Spinoso Real Estate Group of Syracuse, N.Y., maintains and operates the mall and collects rent.

In March, Northlake Mall vowed to increase security, including adding a gun-sniffing dog, following three shootings in less than three months at the shopping destination.

In the same month, Apple and Buckle stores closed.
