British prime minister tests positive for coronavirus

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tested positive for the coronavirus after he felt mild symptoms Thursday, the British government said.

“The Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty,” according to a government news release.

The prime minister will continue leading the British government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as he self-quarantines at 10 Downing Street, the center of the British government and the prime minister’s residence.

Earlier this week, Prince Charles tested positive for the virus.

The 71-year-old prince has mild symptoms “but otherwise remains in good health”, the BBC reports. The prince’s wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, 72, tested negative for the virus, the BBC said.
