Johnston County reports its second death related to the coronavirus
Johnston County reported a second resident died due to complications associated with the coronavirus.
There are now 24 coronavirus-related deaths in the state.
The patient was “elderly” and had underlying health conditions, a release from the county stated. No further information was released to protect the family’s privacy.
“We offer our thoughts and prayers to the family,” said Johnston County Health Director Dr. Marilyn Pearson. “As we continue to see an increase of cases in our county, we are reminded of the importance of staying at home in an effort to stop the spread of this virus.”
Johnston County has 25 positive cases, the release says. Two people have recovered.
The average age of the people who have tested positive for the virus in Johnston County is 54, according to the county.
The number of cases in North Carolina has now topped 2,100, with 89 counties reporting at least one, according to data from county health departments and the NC DHHS compiled by The News & Observer.
