Three first responders test positive for COVID-19; two dozen workers quarantined

The City of Charlotte announced three additional first responders have tested positive for COVID-19. More than two dozen employees are now quarantining as a result.

Two CMPD officers have tested positive for COVID-19 and 14 additional officers have been placed on administrative leave, CMPD Police Chief Kerr Putney said in an email to the department. One employee with the Charlotte Fire Department has also tested positive and 13 other employees have been quarantined, according to the City of Charlotte.

On Wednesday, Medic confirmed that an ambulance worker had tested positive and 14 others were quarantined.

The names of the CMPD employees will not be released, Putney said in the email.

“The County and City have been prepared for this possibility as our first responders have a difficult job that requires them to place their lives on the line to protect the public. We owe them and their family a debt of gratitude and we wish them a speedy recovery,” Mecklenburg County Health Director Gibbie Harris said in a statement.
