Cooper expected to give details on Phase 1 of reopening. How to watch Tuesday briefing.
Gov. Roy Cooper is expected to provide more details at a media briefing Tuesday about Phase 1 of the North Carolina’s three-phase plan to reopen the state amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Cooper said in a Monday news conference that more specifics on what exactly may happen in Phase 1 might come Tuesday. A source familiar with the governor’s plans confirmed on Tuesday that today’s briefing would address Phase 1 details.
If the state makes progress in a number of metrics, including testing, tracing and a downward slope in related trends, the state’s current stay-at-home order could end as early as Friday, May 8, and Phase 1 could begin as early as Saturday, May 9.
Tuesday’s 5 p.m. briefing will be attended by North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen and other DHHS officials.
The press event is one of several media briefings held each week by Cooper or members of his Coronavirus Task Force, where journalists from around the state ask questions.
