Coronavirus

Where can you get a COVID-19 test in Charlotte? Here are 30+ local spots in Mecklenburg.

In Mecklenburg County, there are over 30 sites that provide COVID-19 tests.

With coronavirus testing ramping up across North Carolina, the state Department of Health and Human Services on Monday released a list of testing sites available in each county. Some require an appointment or a referral from a health care provider.

“We continue to ramp up testing across the state ... With more testing, we expect to see more cases,” said state DHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen.

There are nearly 250 testing locations statewide.

The important metric to watch, Cohen said, is the percent of positive results from COVID-19 testing. “Fortunately that has remained stable at about 7 percent,” Cohen said Monday. In Mecklenburg County, officials have said the latest weekly average shows about 7 percent of tests come back positive for COVID-19.

Eligibility for coronavirus testing in the county is changing and the county is working on scaling up testing, with the goal of testing 55,500 people over a 30-day period. To hit the goal, the county needs to test nearly 13,000 county residents a week, Health Director Gibbie Harris has said. In the first week of working toward the goal, the county fell short but administered close to 10,000 tests over a 7 day period in early May.

Mecklenburg public health officials say you should call and talk with your doctor before attempting to get a test. If you don’t have a doctor, you can call the county’s public health hotline at 980-314-9400.
