Here’s how and when your child can get a COVID vaccine across Mecklenburg County

Following sign-off from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention late Tuesday, Mecklenburg County has begun the roll-out of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for kids.

In many places, the vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 will be available starting Thursday.

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for kids in that age group is one-third of the dose given to people age 12 and older. The vaccine is a two-dose series, given three weeks apart.

And patients ages 5 through 11 will need a parent or guardian with them to give written consent for the child to receive the vaccine.

The COVID-19 vaccines are free to all patients.
