Charlotte-area COVID positivity rate is nearing lowest point seen yet
The Charlotte area has reached its lowest COVID positivity rate in close to a year, with the average this week falling nearly as low as was seen early summer last year.
That’s a significant improvement from early 2022, during the spread of omicron nationally. In January, the average positivity rate in Mecklenburg County hit 33%. It’s been falling steadily for the last month.
It’s now at 3.4%, as of March 13, county health officials report. The lowest point on record was in June 2021, when the weekly average positivity rate in Mecklenburg was close to 2%.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the picture of how the Charlotte area and all of North Carolina are faring continues to evolve.
