State to add a lane to I-77 northbound ramp at Cornelius Exit 28
The state plans to add a lane to the northbound Interstate 77 on-ramp at Cornelius Exit 28 this month.
The lane should help alleviate eastbound backups on West Catawba Avenue, town officials said Wednesday. Traffic accessing I-77 northbound backs up to the Torrence Chapel Road/West Catawba Avenue intersection, officials said .
Beginning Sunday night, crews will work day and night to add the ramp lane. The work will involve these overnight lane closures:
▪ Beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday, the eastbound on-ramp lane will be closed until 6 a.m. Monday.
▪ Beginning at 9 p.m Saturday, Sept. 24, the entire on-ramp will be closed and only one eastbound lane on the bridge will be open. The ramp and closed lanes will reopen by noon Sunday, Sept. 25.
▪ Beginning at 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, the entire on-ramp will be closed and only one eastbound lane on the bridge will be open. The ramp and lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27.
